In 1994 I was awarded an Illinois Art Council Grant. Thanks to this award, I was able to produce a series of large digital (Iris) prints that were based on the work that I did a year earlier for my thesis project at the Institute of Design. For the thesis project I photographed families—straight, gay and blended—in my North side Chicago neighborhood. I also taped interviews with them and rephotographed their family snapshots. In the Iris prints, I tried to synthesize all the information I had gathered over the year the project took place.
